Music Therapy

Upbeat Music Therapy partners with CTM to provide music therapy to our children.

What Is Music Therapy?

Music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals. Music therapy may only be conducted by a credentialed professional who is board-certified, has a minimum of a four-year university degree and has completed an internship. Many music therapists are Master’s prepared.

Music therapy interventions can be designed to promote wellness, manage stress, improve communication and mobility, and provide unique opportunities for social interaction and learning.

Why Music Therapy?

Research in music therapy supports the effectiveness of interventions in many areas such as facilitating movement and overall physical rehabilitation, increasing motivation to engage in treatment, providing emotional support for clients and their families, and creating an outlet for expression of feelings.

CTM and Upbeat Music Therapy

Connecting Thru Music Inc. 501c-3 (CTM) in collaboration with Upbeat Music Therapy, provides music therapy and music experiences to children with special needs, including trauma and emotional needs. CTM is committed to advocating for and providing awareness of the efficacy and importance of this program and securing funding for this important learning and developmental tool. Our virtual library is available for you to share with your children and students as lessons and for your enjoyment.

I feel the music program encourages Rowen to participate and be fully engaged. In a classroom setting, he is easily distracted by other people, toys, and food. His best quality is quick hands. From the music to visual instruments, he can participate with hand over hand assistance. At NBE, music gives him direction to focus on.

OUR PROGRAMS

BUILDING BETTER JOB SKILLS

Building Better Job Skills through Music Therapy was developed in collaboration with a team of professionals, having collective experience working with individuals with special needs and in vocational rehabilitation in Northeast Florida. Research indicates an increase in employability as evidenced by increased job retention after participating in vocational training programs (Gomes-Machado, Santos, Schoen, & Chiari, 2016). Thus, a need for additional opportunities for individuals with special needs to reinforce and practice vocational needs through music therapy was identified.
